BCELP Educates Community on Energy Efficiency and Electrical Safety
Our staff
visited the Alice and Jack Wirt Public Library twice in July to educate the
community’s children and their parents about being energy efficient and
electrical safety. The events had large turn outs and were a great success.
The first event included a light display that showed customers the difference in operating cost for a LED versus an Incandescent. Everyone who attended the event won a prize. To win a prize, the only thing participants had to do was learn something new! In total, 90 prizes were given to children and adults. The children were very receptive to the educational games and came back to play again, even knowing they could no longer win another prize. At the second event Crew Leader Darryl Szilagyi and apprentices Brandon Kaszmarak and Mitch Bromund showed residents the effects of downed power line in an electrical safety demonstration. The demonstration showed how electrical current can travel through your body using hot dogs to simulate a human finger. They also taught children why it is important not to pull signal flags out of the ground. All the children were given plastic hard hats and prize packs just for watching the demonstration. We are looking to do more events like these in the future. So watch out for our events on Facebook, Twitter, and our events page! |
